When data is not held by a single database on a single computer, it is distributed across multiple nodes. While technically Spring Network is not a single logical distributed database system, it shares some qualities where each node handles it's own data which can be queried through a Network Service; it can be said that at the point of query - relevant service information is distributed across the network. It would also be possible to link up organisation's databases into a single logical database using the network as a communication platform, thus creating a true distributed database between those nodes.
