The Bulletin network service provides a way to broadcast notices, events and updates to the network in a distributed and near real-time fashion. It is tightly integrated into Wordpress by using a Custom Post Type. Once a bulletin is posted to your Wordpress sit, your node will start broadcasting it. Being a Custom Post Type means it will not show up on your usual site.

Currently it is only plaintext so won't support formatting.

Main Page[edit]

To access the Main Page of the bulletin service select SpringNet > Bulletins. This page will provide a list of the published bulletins. Each bulletin in the list can be edited or trashed by selecting the action from the hover menu.

New Post[edit]

To create a new post, from the Main Page click Add New. This will bring up a familiar interface for writing a post with a Title and Content. You can also tag the post using the Tag panel on the right-hand side of the screen. The Categories panel provides a way of placing your posts into categories.

Clicking Publish will tell the node to start broadcast the post.

Widget[edit]

A widget that comes with the service is called Explorer. This widget shows bulletins that belong to a particular category. This provides a cleaner and more relevant way of viewing bulletins within an area. Clicking on a node's URI brings up their profile in a pop-up box.

Click on Appearance > Widgets to bring up the Widgets page. There will be a widget available called Bulletin Category Explorer which can be dragged over to a content location.

Once placed, the widget configuration will be open:

Network -- This is the network you wish to query. It will default to your current network (e.g. esusx.uk) or you can enter one to your choosing.

Categories -- This sets the category tabs to show on the widget, each category is separated by a comma. By adding a category, it will allow the widget to request bulletins of that category. The reason why it isn't a fixed set of categories is because you may wish to select more relevant categories.
